Gibson, Elizabeth

Dancer born c. 1883 near Kendal. Lived in Windermere and subsequently near Hawkshead.

Living in Garstang, Lancashire at the time of her interview.

She learned step dancing at the age of five from Mr Stainton (probably Thomas Stainton), learning in addition to various steps:

Sailors’ Hornpipe

She also took the part of the Queen at the end of term ball.

She later had lessons from Professor Airey which were held at Burnside near Hawes. She recalled him teaching the following:
