It seems that a series of clog dancing competitions, styled as “World Championships” was run by theatre impresario J.H. Wood.  The competitions began in 1880 in Leeds, and ran  until 1883, when the championship belt was won outright by Dan Leno.

There was then a pause until 1898 when Wood revived the championships, this time at Bow in London.  Further competitions were held until 1901 when they again ceased.

Information is available for the following competitions:

1880 Leeds – Won by Dan Leno.
1883 Oldham – Won by Dan Leno.

1898 Bow, London – Won by J.H. Burns
1899 Leeds
1901 Hull – Won by George MacIntosh
