Living in Wyesdale at the time of their interview.

They recalled step dancing in Pilling, in particular a man who clashed candlesticks together to emphasise some of the beats.

In about 1920 a Mr Robinson came from Morcambe to teach dance classes which they attended.  He taught step dancing although they didn’t learn this. They distinguished between step dancing and heel and toe dancing but couldn’t explain the difference. He was a part-time teacher.
