Rhodes, Percy

Clog dancer from Sheffield.

Son of Leo “George” Rhodes who also danced and from whom  learned the uncle of Gwen Naylor whom he taught and in fact may have been his only pupil.  Also a pianist.

His double act with Leo consisted of dancing on two marble slabs and then jumping up onto two three-legged stools fixed to the stage.

He was able to recall a number of other dance champions:

Dan Leno
J.H. Burns
Tommy Royal
George Mackintosh
Pat Lannon
Martin Melia

Information derived from an interview with Gwen Naylor on 22/3/1986 and a photostat of her MS notes on dancing derived from Percy Rhodes in 1956.
