Solo dance or social couple dance known from oral tradition in the southern Lake District, the solo usually being taught to children.  The solo version is, of course, widely danced in Scotland.  It is not always possible to tell which dance is being referred to.

Known to have been taught by the following dancing masters:

Richard Allen of Langwathby.  Probably taught the social dance.
Dizzy Bryden of Whitehaven.  Taught the solo dance.
Tommy Cannon of Underbarrow and Crosthwaite.  Taught both the solo and the social dance.
James Howson teaching in Flookborough.  Taught the solo dance.
“Pop” John Mason in Dent.  Probably taught the social dance.
Joseph William  Robinson (Old Jos).  Taught both the solo and the social dance.
Robert Carson Robinson, operating in the Millom and Barrow areas.  Taught both the solo and the social dance.
Stainton Robinson of Windermere. Taught both the solo and the social dance.
Billy Urquhart in Bleamoor, Ribblehead and Dent.  Probably taught both the solo and the social dance.

Notations for the dance were collected from Mr and Mrs Akrigg and Mr. T.W. Langhorn.
