Social square dance known from oral tradition in the southern Lake District, Dorset, Yorkshire and Lancashire. Following its introduction in the early 1800s, dancing masters composed new, named, Quadrilles such as the Caledonians, Charles Town Quadrilles, d’Alberts, and most well-known of all, the Lancers.
