Gypsy Gavotte

Couple dance known from oral tradition in the southern Lake District.  Originally from France in the form of a circle dance.  By the 19th century in England it appears to have become a couple dance although the structure is not known with certainty.  The Fan Gavotte was probably a fancy dance for children based on the original Gavotte form.
