Julie Williams

Julie has been a keen dancer most of her life, starting with ballet and then dipping into a wide range of traditional dance styles when she discovered folk at the age of  17 years. She has danced with several dance display groups as well as clog, North West morris and Apalachian dance groups.  She was a founder member of Applejacks Apalachian group in Bristol and then subsequently a founder member of City Clickers Step and Clog dance group. She still dances with them now and they perform English clog, Scottish hard shoe and steps from Canada. She has danced with them at festivals such Chippenham, Sidmouth, Towersey, Shrewsbury and Bromyard, where she’s also led clog and step dance workshops.

She was a member of Reading Cloggies during the early 1980’s and was greatly influenced by dancers such as Ian Dunmer, Ann-Marie Hulme, Jennifer Millest and Sammy Bell.  From Sammy, she leant his two dances, the waltz and the hornpipe and she continues to perform and teach these dancers to others. She has taught these steps at Reading Cloggies Day of Dance and at Lancashire Wallopers weekend of dance as well as City Clickers’ own day of workshops.

She has been a member of Instep for several years now, and although not a professional dancer, she holds some academic and teaching qualifications which make her a useful addition to the team.
