Langhorn, T.W.

Clog and social dancer from Ambleside, and later Great Urswick.  b. 1875.

Brought up in Ambleside. Taught by Joseph Robinson (Old Jos) in the barn at the old mill. Sent by mother to improve posture. Attended for three seasons from 1886 at age 10. Taught polka step and waltz step before step-dancing.

He learned the following dances:

He was able to provide information on the following steps: Single Shuffle, Double Shuffle, Treble Shuffle, Agworm Crawl, Slip-Step, Shuffle Step, Ankle Rock, Slip Step, Single Crunch, Rolling and Knocking Heels, Kicking Step

He also recalled a number of “fancy” dances for which he was able to provide  partial notations:
