John MacLeod (1907-1979) (Iain Ruadh, Mac Phadraig ‘Ic Iain Ruaidh), came from Buaile Dubh, Buaile Uachdrach, Iochdar, South Uist. He was also known as An Dannsair Ruadh, son to Peter MacLeod (1864–?) (mac Iain Ruaidh Thormoid). He was regarded as one of the major sources of these dances (Melin 2016).
