Collis, Ronnie

A professional tap dancer and entertainer who learned to clog dance when young. The clips below show his versatility! Born 1928. Died 2000. He founded Chaplins Stage School in Northampton which at the time of writing is still operating. He appeared in the film The World Our Stage in 1958 and made several television appearances including on Opportunity Knocks on 5th January 1970.

Several clips exist of Ronnie performing his clog pedestal dance at the Reading Day of Dance in 1984. The clip below was filmed by Paula Earwicker and is used with her permission. The musician is Ian Dunmur.

He was also a singer and well-known for his impersonations of Cahrlie Chaplin. The two clips below, also from Paula Earwicker’s collection, show his versatility. Unfortunately the clips are not of the best quality.
