Highland Schottische

Social couple dance known from oral tradition in the southern Lake District, Yorkshire and Northumberland.  Some informants may not have distinguished between this dance and the (Common) Schottische which is dealt with separately, however some listed both as being known to them and so the dances were clearly separate in the minds of at least some informants.

Known to have been taught by the following dancing masters:

Dizzy Bryden of Workington
Tommy Cannon of Underbarrow and Crosthwaite.  He appears also to have taught the dance as an exhibition piece for girls.
Arthur C. Cowper of York
Miss Harding of Ulverston, operating in the 1880s
Mr Ramage of Netherton
Joseph William  Robinson (Old Jos)
