Sometimes also known as “Dartmoor Step Dancing”, these names have come to be applied to the form of stepping used in the step dance competitions held in the Dartmoor area. They form part of a wider step dance tradition which used to be found in the area.
The history of the tradition is admirably described in an interview with Lisa Sture published in 2020.
Two of the best known local dancers of the post-war period have been the subject of Newcastle Series booklets – Bob Cann and Leslie Rice and films of their dancing are available via their individual pages.
