Tulloch Gorm

Solo step dance recorded from oral tradition on South Uist. Originally taught by Ewan MacLachlan in the mid-nineteenth century. Also spelled Tullochgorm or Tulluchgorum. The dance is somewhat similar to a Highland Fling.

Known to have been taught by the following dancing masters:

Donald (Roidein) MacDonald – of South Uist
John MacLeod – of South Uist

The main notation – eight steps – is from from Tom Flett’s original but unattributed and undated fieldnotes, apparently collected from John MacLeod in the3 early 1950s.
Also known from a notation – one step- collected by Frank Rhodes from Annie MacDonald on  8/7/1956.

A copy, again collected from John MacLeod was published in Jack McConachie‘s Letter Service Series (early 1950s) given here.
